In its last outing as a whole unit this winter, the Baldwinsville boys indoor track and field team got the ideal ending it wanted. The Bees held off Liverpool and the rest of the field to win last Wednesday night’s CNY Counties League National division championship meet at Manley Field House. B’ville had 122 points, to Liverpool’s total of 102 as Rome Free Academy (84 points) finished third. As he has done before, Brian Kane cleaned up in field events. The senior cleared 6 feet 4 inches in the high jump, a foot better than teammate Jon Hingre, who took third. Kane also was third in the triple jump (40 feet 4 1/2 inches) and fourth in the long jump, going 19 feet 9 1/2 inches. On the oval, B’ville went 1-2 in the 3,200-meter run, as Nate McCabe won in a time of 9:46.45 and Shaun Thompson took second in 9:49.91. Thompson also took third (4:44.46) in the mile. Andrew Hoover provided a sprint highlight, winning the 55-meter hurdles over Liverpool’s Joe Spernyak, 8.21 seconds to 8.22. Rudy Sapp claimed second in the 55-meter dash in 6.71 seconds, with Todd Mitchell (6.89 seconds) in third place. In the 300-meter dash, Mitchell again was third (38.13 seconds) and Sapp was fourth. Hoover, Brian Wisely, Jon Hingre and Joseph Morra were second in the 4×400 relay in 3:45.56, and in the 4×200 Hoover, Sapp, Mitchell and Alex Nagy again took second in 1:36.69. Eighth-grader Josh Perez stepped up to finish second in the 1,000-meter run in 2:54.53 as Charles Parker got second in the 600-meter run in 1:33.99. Parker, Perez, James Fleming and Alec Peinkofer got third (9:11.94) in the 4×800. Two days earlier, in the girls edition of the CNYCL National meet, Baldwinsville picked up 34 points, taking sixth place. CNS won with 142.5 points. In the 4×800 relay, Jaimee Balloni, Lindsay Varga, Laura Farleman and Ashley Shaheen claimed second place in 10:14.17, as only CNS (10:08.05) fared better. Farleman would also get second place in the high jump, clearing 5 feet. Shaheen claimed fourth in the 1,000 (3:20.41). Kristen Biedermann was fifth in the 3,000-meter run in 12:02.51 as Gina Carnovale took sixth in the 55-meter dash and Liz Connors was sixth in the 1,500-meter run. Jaimee Balloni, Aubrey Francis, Quaneisha Ivey and Shannon Hines were fourth in the 4×400 relay in 4:22.16, as Ivey got fifth in the 300 (46.53 seconds) on her own. Carnovale, Allie Vroman, Kaitlin Hogan and Taylor Pastore were fifth (1:56.90) in the 4×200. Sierra Earle was fifth in the shot put (28 feet 1 3/4 inches), with Carnovale seventh in the long jump.
