All through Monday night’s CNY Counties League National division championship meet at Manley Field House, the Cicero-North Syracuse and Liverpool girls indoor track and field teams slugged it out. When it was done, the Northstars prevailed, just as it did at the Feb. 3 Section III Class AA meet, with 142.5 points, though the Warriors were a close second with 129 points. Jasmine Thompson was a difference-maker on CNS’s behalf. First, she beat teammate Katie Osborne to the line in the 55-meter hurdles, 8.70 seconds to 9.06. Thompson also won the high jump, clearing 5 feet 4 inches (best of the night), and was second in the long jump with 17 feet 2 1/4 inches as Osborne was sixth. In between, Liverpool’s Armani Moore (16 feet 1/2 inch) was fourth. CNS went 1-2 in the shot put, Casey Wilmer winning it with a toss of 35 feet 3 1/4 inches as Valerie Langevin was second (34 feet 3 1/2 inches) and Tatiana Gladney got third place (33 feet 6 1/2 inches) for Liverpool. On the track, Taylor Wendler, with a time of 5:05.41, beat teammate Nicole Watterud (5:07.72) to the line in the 1,500-meter run, with Liverpool getting Lesley Bowers in third place (5:10.41) and Kaitlyn McNamara in fourth. In the 3,000-meter run, it was much the same as Wendler won in 10:37.16 and Watterud again followed in 10:42.31, with Lesley Bowers third (10:47.25) and Chelsea Attaway fourth. In the 4×800 relay, Nicole Campagna, Katie Laris, Marissa Colburn and Schuyler Cary gave CNS a victory in 10:08.5, with Liverpool third in 10:37.81. The Northstars were second (4:20.50) to Rome Free Academy (4:15.39) in the 4×400, with Liverpool third in 4:21.79. Brittany Murphy gave CNS a fourth in the triple jump by going 32 feet 4 3/4 inches as the Warriors’ Megan Earle finished sixth. Earle was also sixth in the 55 hurdles as Nikki Carfi was fifth (10.25 seconds) behind Thompson and Osborne. Trina Bills was victorious in the 600-meter run, her time of 1:42.77 beating teammate Rachel Putman (1:43.44) and Campagna (1:43.50), who was third as Chelsea Davidson took fifth. As if that wasn’t enough, Bills also claimed the 1,000-meter run in 3:13.93, with Colburn second (3:17.09) and Kyla Bills in third place. Hannah Anthes claimed second in the 55-meter dash in 7.74 seconds, while Armani Moore finished fifth. Bills ran to third in the 300-meter dash in 44.19 seconds as Skye Borasky took sixth place. Liverpool’s quartet of Borasky, Anthes, Chenae Sinclair and Farrah Terranova did get third in the 4×200 relay in a time of 1:54.67, with CNS fourth in 1:56.48.
