Honeywell and the New York State Department of Conservation will hold an informational meeting tonight at 7 p.m. in the town of Camillus municipal gym to discuss plans to use Wastebed 13 as a Sediment Consolidation Area. About 100 residents last week attended the Community Participation Working Group meeting to pose questions about the plan to the DEC and Honeywell. Those questions are expected to be addressed at tonight’s meeting. Residents have questioned the safety of the neighborhoods surrounding Wastebed 13, where Honeywell plans to pump sediment from the lake bottom into geotextile tubes. The sediment contains mercury and polychlorinated biphenyls, among other toxic components. The meeting is open to the public.
