At the last minute, the Morrisville-Eaton girls basketball team got the win it needed to move into the Section III Class C playoffs. Up against a strong foe in Oriskany Tuesday night, the Warriors overcame a third-quarter slump and upset the Redskins 44-38 to improve to 8-10, just inside the .400 record mark required to gain a post-season berth. All through the early stages, M-E’s defense played with intense urgency, holding Oriskany to just four points in the first quarter. Then the offense kicked in with an 18-8 push through the second period that led to a 27-12 lead at the break. Then the Warriors went cold, getting just two points in the third quarter as Oriskany, led by Christina Graziadei (20 points), roared back within sight. But M-E used a lot of clutch free-throw shooting in the homestretch to pull out the win. In all, nine different Warrior players scored, with Emily Corpin leading the charge as she got 13 points. Leigha Morris added 10 points. While all this was going on, Hamilton, comfortably in the playoffs, saw Katie Weeks erupt with a career performance during a 60-34 victory over Westmoreland. The main reason the Emerald Knights (11-7) bolted out to a 41-15 halftime lead was that, literally, Weeks could not miss. Her first five 3-point shots all fell, and she added two more for seven in the half as Weeks outscored the entire Bulldog roster. Though she didn’t add much to that total in the second half, Weeks still had 28 points, while Jordan Peterson worked inside for 16 points and Katherine Keever got 10 points.
