A whole lot of work remains in Tim Solomon’s efforts to revive the Baldwinsville boys basketball program, and part of the trick is to finish strong. B’ville hosted Nottingham last Tuesday night and had a great chance going into the fourth quarter before, again, it all fell apart in a 75-57 loss to the Bulldogs. After an active first quarter where both sides scored plenty, the Bees took charge in the second period, outscoring Nottingham 16-9. Despite the Bulldogs’ recovery in the third period, B’ville still had a 46-45 lead with a quarter to play. But once Nottingham got the lead, though, it got away, closing in 30-11 manner. And Jawan Simmons led the show, piling up 40 points through making 12 field goals (including four 3-pointers) and four successful free throws. This negated the 19 points put up by Kevin Roy. Mike Guinta and Greg Bell each had 10 points, with Chris Whelan earning eight points. On the girls side Tuesday night, the Bees went to Nottingham and fared well at the start — but fell apart in the final period of a 45-41 loss to the Bulldogs. With strong defense, B’ville claimed a 12-4 first-quarter lead. Over the course of the next two periods, the tempo varied, but the Bees stayed out in front by a solid margin. But nothing worked in the fourth quarter, as all B’ville could manage was a single free throw and Nottingham, led by Nikki Works (16 points), pulled out in front for good. Lauren McVey had 13 points, one of her best totals of the season, with Maggie Monnat also getting 13 points. Megan Collins added six points.
