Just three days after signing his national letter of intent to go to the University of Wisconsin, Fayetteville-Manlius track star Alex Hatz would beat an elite field at the Reebok Indoor Games at Roxbury Community College’s Reggie Lewis Center in Boston, Mass. Hatz, who missed the fall cross country season due to various ailments, has regained his strength and has run well during the indoor season. But he saved his best stuff for the Junior Mile. Up against top runners from both the United States and Great Britain, Hatz stayed at the front of the back until the final 400 meters, then ran the last lap in a minute flat as he finished in four minutes, 12.08 seconds, the top time of the season in the entire country. He beat the runner-up, Ammar Moussa, by more than two seconds. Hatz is likely to join his F-M teammates at Manley Field House for Tuesday night’s Section III Class AA championship meet.
