On a productive Friday night, the Canastota, Hamilton and Morrisville-Eaton girls basketball teams all found the win column. Having completely shaken off its brief January skid, Canastota beat Cooperstown 50-38, while Hamilton took out West Canada Valley 54-42 and M-E fought to a 53-45 victory over Westmoreland. At home, the Raiders improved its mark to 13-2 by quickly jumping on Cooperstown, grabbing a 16-6 lead by the end of the first quarter. The Redskins briefly rallied, but Canastota reclaimed control in the third period, holding Cooperstown to seven points as the margin went back to double digits. Alicia Hibbard earned a double-double of 19 points and 11 rebounds, with Shea Foster gaining 12 points. Lindsay McGinley grabbed 10 rebounds, adding six points and six steals as Alexis Havens added five points. As for Hamilton, it followed its narrow 49-47 win over Morrisville-Eaton on Wednesday with another strong effort at West Canada as it improved to 10-7. Throughout the first half, the Emerald Knights’ defense shut down whatever the Indians tried to establish, bolting to a 30-14 lead that would hold up the rest of the way. Jordan Peterson hit on three 3-pointers on her way to 25 points, nearly half of Hamilton’s output. Katie Weeks earned 13 points, while Brook Furner earned seven points and Jenna Whyatt got six points. And M-E would bounce back from the Hamilton defeat in its trip to Westmoreland, gradually building its lead over the Bulldogs with some of its best offensive work of the season. Jordan Klein had 16 points, while Kim Horton contributed 14 points. Abby Clark had eight points and Leigha Morris earned seven points.
