A wave of area indoor track and field runners sought the top honors during Wednesday night’s Section III championship meet at Manley Field House. In the Class B competition, Westhill finished fourth, with 51 points, while Marcellus took sixth place (32 points) and Jordan-Elbridge tied for ninth with 20 points. West Genesee got just 17 points in a fiercely competitive Class AA meet. For Westhill, Morgan Roach was second in the shot put, tossing it 30 feet 3 3/4 inches, while Paula Sanz cleared 7 feet for third place in the pole vault. Brenna Rainone ran to second in the 55-meter dash in 7.78 seconds, while Lissa DiPaola was third (11:40.27) in the 3,000-meter run. In the 4×400 relay, Caroline Buonocore, Katie Powers, Briana Newman and Meg Dwyer gave Westhill a second-place time of 4:21.96. Mary Bailey claimed fourth in the high jump (4 feet 4 inches) and sixth in the long jump, and helped the Warriors take fifth (1:56.32) in the 4×200 relay. Westhill also was fifth in the 4×800 relay, with Rainone fifth in the 300-meter dash (45.42 seconds) and Buonocore fifth in the 55-meter hurdles. Katie Lenkiewicz was sixth in the 1,000-meter run and Catherine Coon sixth in the 3,000. Marcellus had its big moment in the 600-meter run, where Laura Quercia beat the field in a time of 1:43.74. Lizzie Dean earn third place in the 1,500-meter run in 5:11.67, right behind Bishop Ludden/Grimes’ Jessica Curry (5:05.79) in second place as Maggie Dunn finished sixth. Dean, Dunn, Quercia and Molly McGuane claim fourth in the 4×800 relay (10:34.63) as Alana Todd finish sixth in the high jump. McGuane, on her own, was fourth in the 1,000-meter run in 3:28 flat. J-E saw McKenzie Williams, Brianna Byrnes, Rachel Betts and Rachel Scott post a third-place time of 1:55.25 in the 4×200 relay, with Byrnes, Kim Foltz, Rachel Scott and Julia Conlan third in the 4×400 (4:26.52) . Williams was fourth in the 55-meter dash (8.04 seconds) as Kathryn Alonso-Bergevin take fifth (26 feet 4 1/4 inches) in the shot put. The Eagles were sixth in the 4×800. Solvay’s best individual finish came from Christina Clemente, who claimed fourth place in the 300-meter dash in 45.02 seconds. Kim Kirkpatrick was fifth in the 55-meter dash in 8.10 seconds as the Bearcats got sixth place in both the 4×400 and 4×200. Up in the Class AA ranks, West Genesee had eighth-grader Laura Leff earn third place in the 3,000 in 10:28.06, while Katie Bott got third place (1:42.15) in the 600. Amy Hannahan was sixth in the 1,000 (3:20.58) and teamed with Bott, Leff and Kelly Powell to finish fourth in the 4×800 relay in 10:16.81.
