Regardless of the season, the Skaneateles girls track and field team always proves itself to be a force, and it reinforced that point by earning the Section III Class B indoor championship. The happy moment came Wednesday night, at Manley Field House, when the Lakers picked up 92 points to outlast a field of 11 challengers. Cazenovia was second, with 75 points, while Clinton took third with 72 points. Victoria Sakal was responsible for nearly a third of those points through three different winning efforts. On her own, Sakal won the 55-meter dash in 7.55 seconds, then turned around and took the 300-meter dash in 43.22 seconds, nearly a second faster than Cazenovia’s Jillian Vogl. Cassie Berg was sixth in both events. And in the 4×200 relay, Sakal teamed with Berg, Emma Ford and Sophie Gorman to post a time of 1:52.40, again beating Cazenovia, who had to settle for second place in 1:53.46. Skaneateles nearly pulled off a relay sweep. Emma Ford, Eileen Ford, Carly Strods and Jane Gaffney worked together in the 4×400 to hold off Westhill, 4:21.06 to 4:21.96. In the 4×800, Strods, along with Amanda Gray, Danielle Mazzeo and Ellis Van Slyke, finished in 10:30.36, second only to CBA, who won in 10:19.71. In the 600-meter run, Eileen Ford was second (1:44.86) and Strods finished fourth (1:45.41). Gray was third in the 1,000-meter run (3:14.89), while Madeline Adams claimed fourth place in the 3,000-meter run in 11:47.54. Gorman was third in the 55-meter hurdles in 10.22 seconds. Skaneateles made some noise in field events, too, as Emma Ford took third in the long jump (15 feet 3 3/4 inches) and Eileen Ford was fourth (32 feet 1 inch) in the triple jump. Erica Tardiff threw the shot put 27 feet 2 inches and claimed fourth place.
