It was rather simple arithmetic for the East Syracuse-Minoa boys bowling team going into last Wednesday’s showdown with Fulton at Strike-N-Spare Lanes. Either the Spartans won all four points against the defending Section III champion Red Raiders, or Fulton would take the OHSL regular-season title. ESM needed something special — and got it, getting big games from Joe Baccardo and Joe Erardi and beating the Red Raiders 4-0. Each of the games were close in total pinfall. The Spartans won the opener by nine pins, then the second game by 38 pins and the third game by 10 pins. One more strike by Fulton, here or there, and the sweep could have turned into a 2-2 split. ESM finished with 3,082 to the Red Raiders’ 3,025. That included Boccardo putting together a 692 series that included a 267 high game. Erardi rolled a 279 on his way to a 633 set, while Sean Gavan got a 604 series and 239 high game. Fulton’s Dan Wahl led all individuals with a 697 series. Meanwhile, the ESM girls team lost to Fulton 3-1, despite Beth Piston putting together a 584 series and a 234 high game. Alyssa Boccardo added a 558 series and 224 high game as Harley Wylie (622 series) paced the Red Raiders. Fayetteville-Manlius put up some nice scores in last Monday’s match against Central Square, even if it only split with the Red Hawks. In the boys Hornets’ 2-1 loss, Bobby Schepp nearly was perfect, shooting a 288 game during his 692 series as Chris Prestin added a 647 series. Central Square won with Adam Hyde posting a 674 series and 248 high game. On the other hand, F-M’s girls won by a 3-0 margin as Tricia Miller put together a 687 series, one of her best of the season, and a 247 high game. Matika Groesbeck added a 554 set. As ESM was battling Fulton on Wednesday, CBA’s boys team was topping Cortland 3-1 behind Connor Harrington’s 642 series and 242 high game. Ryan Dickey added a 565 set. Both the CBA and Bishop Grimes teams lost — the Brothers to Cortland, the Cobras to Chittenango.
