Without a lot of fanfare – and with no stress – the Canastota girls volleyball team finished an 18-0 run through the 2009-10 regular season. The final chapter, on Wednesday night, consumed just an hour of court time and involved the Raiders breezing to a three-game sweep of Adirondack. This match had extra meaning because, one year earlier, Canastota had an unbeaten mark near the end of the regular season – and lost to Adirondack at Boonville. Those returning Raiders remembered, and in the friendlier confines of Laidlaw Gym, it never was close. Canastota rarely made mistakes in the first two games. In the opener, the Raiders, up 10-4, pulled away with nine straight points, most of them on Denae Rinaldo’s serve, and it ended in a 25-7 romp. As a follow-up, the Raiders scored the first five points of the second game, then had another 5-0 run as the lead grew to double digits and stayed there in a 25-14 decision. It also went to 24-9 in the fourth game before Adirondack reeled off its only points streak of the night, six in a row, before match point closed it out at 25-15. Rinaldo finished with 11 kills, plus 15 digs and three aces, while Jessica Patterelli earned 21 assists, 19 digs and eight kills. Katelyn Rounds had seven digs and five Kills as Tessa Gaglianese earned three kills and three assists. On Sunday, Canastota, who will be the top seed for the Section III Class B playoffs, will find out whom it will face at Laidlaw Gym late next week.
