Heading into the last week of the regular season, the Cazenovia girls volleyball team is still in good form, and ready for another shot at undefeated Skaneateles Thursday night at Buckley Gym. Should Cazenovia win this battle of Laker teams, it will tie Skaneateles for the OHSL Liberty division regular-season championship. Before it departed January, the Lakers hosted Westhill Friday night and took just three games to take out the Warriors 25-13, 25-12, 25-20. Chelsea Lauria, with 14 assists, and Megan Robinson, with eight assists, did the work on the back line as the Lakers never let Westhill get close in any single game. Up front, Alexis Markowski finished with six kills, while Alex Crawford got four kills. Lizzy Reed, Rachel Burbidge and Melanie Arehart each had three kills, with Burbidge picking up three aces. Sarah Race had three assists. Before the rematch with Cazenovia (whom the Lakers lost to on Jan. 7), the Lakers (13-2, 11-1 league) will visit Solvay Monday night. Then, when Cazenovia and Skaneateles get together on Saturday, the festivities will extend beyond the court. Both teams are banding together to raise money for the Leukemia Society in honor of Taylor Matt, a Cazenovia High School senior battling leukemia who needs a bone marrow transplant to fight the disease.
