Once again, the Cicero-North Syracuse girls indoor track and field team took control during last Saturday’s CNY Indoor Track Association meet at SUNY-Cortland’s Lusk Field House. The Northstars put up 114 points in the fifth and final Cortland meet of the CNYITA slate as Liverpool claimed second place with 88.5 points. Skaneateles (57 points) took third place. Freshman Nicole Watterud stood out with two wins in distance races. She beat the field in the 3,000-meter run in 10:45.39, with teamamte Schuyler Cary in third place (11:46.97). Watteroud also won the 1,500-meter run in a time of 5:11.86, beating Liverpool teammates Chelsea Attaway (5:14.16) and Kaitlyn McNamara (5:32.05) as Dana Rinaldi (5:38.27) gave CNS a fourth-place finish. Elsewhere, Nicole Campagna claimed in the 600-meter run with a time of 1:45.09 as Shannon Bausinger took fifth. Maria Lamontagne needed 3:13.13 to prevail in the 1,000-meter run. In the 4×800 relay, Campagna, Lamontagne, Katie Laris and Chelsea Davidson prevailed in a time of 10:00.54, with Liverpool (11:21.53) taking fifth. The Northstars’ Jamie Ryan ran to fourth in the 55-meter hurdles (45.70 seconds) as CNS got third (4:25.72) in the 4×400. Jasmine Thompson would prevail in the triple jump, going 32 feet 2 inches to edge out Liverpool’s Armani Moore (31 feet 9 3/4 inches), with Brittany Murphy in fifth place. Thompson also took second in the high jump, clearing 5 feet 1 inch as Katie Osborne took fifth. Osborne got second in the 55-meter hurdles (9.33 second), with Liverpool’s Megan Earle (9.86 seconds) edging out the Northstars’ Jessica Wheeler (9.87) for third place. On Liverpool’s side, Attaway took the pole vault, clearing 8 feet 6 inches, with Jessica Wheeler (CNS) second with 8 feet and the Warriors’ Shae Shenandoah in fifth place. Hannah Anthes (7.82 seconds) and Moore (7.90 seconds) were second and third, respectively, in the 55-meter dash. Tatiana Gladney would win the shot put for the Warriors, tossing it 32 feet 9 1/4 inches, as Evelyn White added a point for sixth place. Megan Earle and Meagan Turner were third and fourth, respectively, in the high jump, each of them clearing 4 feet 10 inches. The Warriors were also fourth (2:02.67) in the 4×200 as Skye Borasky took fourth in the 600 and Kyla Bills was fourth in the 1,000. In the boys afternoon session at Cortland, CNS had 69 points for second place and Liverpool was fifth, with 50 points, both of them trailing Baldiwnsville, who won with 106.5 points. Chris Buchanan (10:03.42) and Eric Hart (10:44.97) were second and third, respectively, in the 3,200-meter run, with Buchanan also second in the mile in 4:47.20, while Dan Fritz was fourth (2:51.25) in the 1,000. Alex Bottorff was second in the 600 (1:33.82) and Ken Ryan was fourth (1:36.96). CNS was third in the 4×800 relay (9:04.29), with Liverpool getting fourth place. The Northstars were also fifth in the 4×400 relay in 4:02.87. As for Liverpool, Joe Spernyak won the 55-meter hurdles in 8.19 seconds, with Keewan Rondinello in fifth place. In the 4×200 relay, Rondinello, Damien Brown, LaQuan Kitchen and Tony Shuler prevailed in 1:39.36 as CNS (1:47.23) settled for fifth place. Jason Osborne threw the shot put 49 feet 1/2 inch and got second place, just ahead of CNS’s Jared Thomson (48 feet 7 3/4 inches) in third place. Justin McGriff claimed second in the triple jump (37 feet 6 1/4 inches) as Joe Alvarado (33 feet 7 1/4 inches) got fourth place. Mychal Ostuni was fifth in the 1,000 as CNS’s Brendan Ryan was third in the pole vault (11 feet) and Michael Hyde was fifth. Also for the Northstars, Demetrius Oliver was fourth in the high jump and Shayne Mitchell got fifth in the triple jump.
