Each of Jamesville-DeWitt’s indoor track and field teams would go to the top of the standings in the sixth CNY Indoor Track Association meet of the season, held Saturday at SUNY-Cortland’s Lusk Field House. The girls Red Rams had 97 points, beating Fayetteville-Manlius, who was second with 81 points, with CBA (17 points) back in seventh. And the J-D boys got 83 points to fend off West Genesee (81 points) and Corcoran (77 points) as the Hornets had 36 points for fourth place. J-D would take the girls 4×400 relay as Liz Pieri, Katy Pieri, Margaret Fuller and Danielle Doss finished in a time of 4:24.92, just ahead of West Genesee (4:25.62) at the wire. F-M was sixth in 4:47.60. In the high jump, Fuller (5 feet) and Liz Pieri (4 feet 6 inches) had a 1-2 finish ahead of East Syracuse-Minoa’s Heather Hiltbrand in third place. And in the pole vault, Katy Pieri won and Doss was second, each of them clearing 7 feet 6 inches as J-D got 36 total points from those events. Natalie Mannion was third (31 feet 6 1/2 inches) and Amanda Tan fourth (30 feet 3 inches) in the triple jump, with CBA seeing Betty Etheredge take second place (31 feet 6 3/4 inches) and Julia Nass fifth place. J-D’s Victoria Nandel was second in the shot put with a toss of 25 feet 11 inches as F-M’s Yousi Oquendo was fifth. Everywhere F-M had success, J-D seemed to gain points, too. In the 1,500-meter run, Hornet teammates Courtney Chapman (4:44.76) and Katie Sischo (4:50.16) went 1-2, and J-D’s Eileen Cody took third place in 5:08.28 as Bishop Grimes teammates Jessica Curry and Elizabeth Black were fourth and sixth, respectively. In the 4×800 relay, where Chapman, Sischo, Jillian Fanning and Heather Martin won in 9:45.87, J-D snagged a point for sixth place as the Hornets also took fourth in the 4×200. The Hornets saw Jillian Fanning take second in the 1,000 (3:12.11), as Alyssa Hamel was fourth in the 55-meter dash (7.89 seconds). In the 55-meter hurdles, Isabel Carapella was second (9.91 seconds) and Heather Rogeux was fourth (10.29 seconds). All this local rivalry dimmed a bit on the boys side, where J-D was so dominant. Like the girls, the boys Red Rams won the 4×400 as Ira Griffin, Eric Semmel, Max Smith and David Salbert posted a time of 3:43.82 to hold off Homer (3:44.31) at the top. Salbert got to second in the 300-meter dash in 38.28 seconds. Tim Kendrick, on his own, won the triple jump by going 38 feet 5 1/4 inches, and he teamed with Bumkuth Jiak, Tyler Petersen and Austin Davis to win the 4×800 relay in 8:46.63 as F-M (9:37.25) took fifth. J-D added a fourth (1:44.98 in the 4×200 as F-M’s quartet of Langston Lightcap, Tanner Carter, J.R. Sage and Austin Perez was second in 1:44.25. CBA had its big moment in the 3,200-meter run, where Tom Voorheis won in a time of 10:10.32, just ahead of F-M’s Ben Thomas, who got second in 10:13.95. J-D’s William Hohreiter sneaked into fifth place as the Hornets’ Eric Billinson was sixth. In the mile, CBA’s Matt Giannino was third, in 4:38.38, with F-M placing Andrew Roache and Mark McGurrin fourth and fifth, respectively. F-M featured, among others, Brendan Farrell taking third (2:43.58) and Joe Harrnett fifth (2:45.77) in the 1,000.
