Long before heading east on Route 31 to Cicero-North Syracuse for this Saturday’s Section III Dual Meet, the Baldwinsville wrestling team had plenty to smile about this week. The Bees used Wednesday night’s 37-24 victory over West Genesee to clinch the CNY Counties League National division regular-season title. Each of the first four matches, from 145 to 171 pounds, was a close one — and B’vill won each time, establishing a 12-0 lead that it would not relinquish. Kurt McArdell opened at 145, edging Erik Krohl 3-1, and Joe Senf followed at 152 pounds by earning a 4-2 win over Heitham Wady. At 160 pounds, Auggie Zona beat Matt Nichols 8-4, and Pat Nasoni (171 pounds) held off Nick Marco 5-2. Once that was established, the Bees found easier points, whether it was a forfeit to Jacob Florack (215 pounds) or Joey Shaheen, at 103 pounds, pinning Logan Dirk near the end of the second period. Though he got a battle at 125 pounds, Anthony Finocchiaro did enough to beat Jason Heggelke 6-0, while Nick Jacobs (135 pounds) took just 57 seconds to pin Jon Fetterolf. Antonio Peck, at 140 pounds, closed the meet by earning a 15-0 technical fall over Wajeeh Hasan. Back on Jan. 16, in the Clayton Barnard Tournament at Hilton, the Bees tied for ninth in a 17-team field with 78 points. Spencerport won with 263 points. Shaheen finished second at 103, losing a close 3-2 final to Spencerport’s Geoff Brown. Finocchiaro (125) and Chad McArdell, at 96 pounds, both had third-place efforts, as Senf beat Alex Schepler (Hilton) 7-5 for fifth place at 152.
