Through 12 consecutive defeats, the Oneida girls basketball team somehow kept its patience, knowing that, with a consistent effort, a win would be found. That long, frustrating search ended Tuesday night, at Holland Patent, where the Indians rallied in the fourth quarter to beat the Golden Knights 42-35. Oneida led in the game’s opening minutes, only to see HP quickly go in front and stay there for a while. At times, the Indians would catch up, and did go to halftime tied 19-19, but the Golden Knights were ahead 29-25 as the final period started. At just the right moment, the Indians’ defense cranked up, forcing turnovers and chances on the other end. Oneida cut into the margin, then went ahead for good, 31-30, on Nicole Shene’s 3-pointer. From there, the Indians held on, as Jenna Didio finished with 10 points, Ke’Airah Parker eight points and Erika Williams seven points. HP’s Karlene Friermuth led both sides with 11 points. As this went on, Vernon Verona Sherrill ran into Camden and lost to the Blue Devils 84-42. Winners of 10 of its last 11 games, Camden raced out to a 46-17 halftime edge and never got caught. In defeat, the Red Devils saw Tracee Scheibel earn 12 points, with Erin Curtis adding 10 points and Megan Reed adding eight points. Camden teammates Ashley Roser (22 points) and Lindsay Jones (20 points, including four 3-pointers0) combined to match VVS by themselves.
