In an OHSL Liberty division appearance, the Jordan-Elbridge wrestling team got points in Wednesday’s home meet against Skaneateles, but lost to the Lakers 43-25. All of the Eagles’ points came in the lighter weight classes. Mitch Alpha needed just 37 seconds to pin R.J. Beck in his 112-pound match, and Joe Mills (135 pounds) used similar dispatch to finish off Adam Notarpole. As Adam VanWart (103 pounds) claimed a forfeit, Preston Bishop, at 130 pounds, took a 9-1 victory over Ryan Dick and Mike Nguyen (119 pounds) fought past Tyler Saunders 6-2. Every match from 140 pounds upward went to Skaneateles, though, with only Mitch Cooper (145 pounds) and Eric Gross (152 pounds) going the full six minutes in losing decisions. This followed the appearance of Solvay, J-E and Marcellus at the Jan. 9 Port Byron Invitational. The Bearcats finished sixth in the 16-team field, with 93 points, while the Eagles took eighth with 88.5 points. Mike Warne gave Solvay the title at 152 pounds, holding off Cazenovia’s Noah Shephard 6-3 in the championship round. Conor Cosgrove (215 pounds) pinned Adam Youlles (North Rose-Wolcott) for third place, with Mitch Anthony fourth at 135 pounds. Kevin Fox pinned Clancy Kemp (Cazenovia) for fifth place at 285 pounds. As for J-E, it also had one winner at Port Byron — Nguyen, at 112 pounds, doing just enough to get past Cazenovia’s Ryan Cook 3-2. Alpha reached the 103-pound final, only to lose to Cook’s Laker teammate, Brad Nardella, 10-5. VanWart (96 pounds) held off Alex Jones (LaFayette) 8-7 to finish third as Bishop (125 pounds) claimed fourth place. For Marcellus, Keith McIntosh had a fifth-place effort at 112 pounds.
