Bouncing back from last Friday’s struggles at Westhill, the Bishop Ludden girls basketball team went to Solvay Tuesday night and beat the Bearcats 54-41. The game was tied, 12-12, when the Gaelic Knights (7-3, 7-2 league) started to assume control in the middle stages, holding Solvay to nine points in both the second and third periods. What’s more, Solvay paid for all the attention it gave to 1,000-point scorer Ashley Cianfriglia, for it left Bella Knapp open to hit on four 3-pointers on her way to 17 points for the night. Inside, Lauren Roy, with 15 points, and Michelle Roesch, with 11 points, both had strong showings. Solvay had Tessa Pucello earn 17 points, with Abbey Jones adding nine points and Tiffany Guinta eight points. As this went on, Marcellus, who plays Westhill this Friday, nearly got upended on the way, needing to go all four quarters to fight off Phoenix 42-39. They went through a low-scoring first half, the Mustangs (9-2, 7-2 league) inching ahead 14-13. From there, the pace quickened, as the lead kept trading hands before Marcellus reclaimed the advantage in the late going and held on, this despite Melissa Lee not getting a point. Marie Temara, with 14 points, provided the inside scoring as Megan Tock worked from the perimeter to get her 14 points. Jessie Nye added six points. Kaylee May led Phoenix with 15 points.
