Few figured that the Canastota boys bowling team would make some history during Tuesday’s match against Cooperstown. But that’s exactly what Steve Piatkowski did in the Raiders’ 5-0 sweep of the Redskins. Aside from a six-pin missed in the opening game, Piatkowski threw every shot in the pocket and showed remarkable consistency. Counting a high game of 269, Piatkowski finished with a 783 series, shattering the school record of 752, established by David Hibbard four years ago during the Section III championship tournament. And that good play spread to Piatkowski’s teammates, too, as Sean Coppola had a 233 game during his 571 series and A.J. Salay had a 600 set that included a 221 game. Shawn Farley (555 series) and Jon Hibbard (540 series) bowled well, too. Canastota’s girls team also swept Cooperstown 5-0, as Jessica Hofmeister earned a 503 series and 216 high game. Ashley Halsey (454 series) and Jessica Campbell (442 series) were close behind.
