Rested, and primed to see what takes place in 2010, the Canastota girls basketball team continued to build up its win total. When it came to Thursday’s game at Cooperstown, the Raiders leaned on its fast-rising freshman star, Shea Foster, who had a career effort in a 58-47 win over the Redskins. For once, Canastota’s trademark defense was not completely sharp, especially in the second half, so the Raiders had to cope with an increased tempo — and a need for more baskets. Foster gave it to them, and then some. She kept getting open throughout the first half, leading to field goals and fouls as the Raiders steadily worked its way to a 30-19 halftime lead. And every time Cooperstown tried to rally, Foster responded, not letting up until she had poured in 33 points and got 11 rebounds, too. The Redskins couldn’t gang up on Foster, either, because Alicia Hibbard and Alexis Havens each were busy picking up 11 points. At 7-0 on the season, the Raiders visited Adirondack on Monday night, then return home Saturday to face Madison.
