Back from solid showings in big holiday-season meets at Dolgeville and General Brown, the Baldwinsville wrestling team proceeded to seize command of the CNY Counties League National division race. In a hard-fought meet last Wednesday night at Cicero-North Syracuse, the Bees only won seven of the 13 matches, but did enough with those points to beat the Northstars 33-22 and take sole possession of first place. Nearly half the points came from a stretch that started at 152 pounds when Joe Senf pinned Dan Drake in 1:48. Auggie Zona (160 pounds) gave B’ville an 8-5 victory over Andy Osborne and James Lang, at 171 pounds, earned a pin over Andrew Holzapfel in 3:10. Anthony Finocchiaro, who went 15-0 in those holiday meets, continued his hot streak at 130 pounds, pinning Kiel Dyer in 1:35 as John Hierholzer (125 pounds) beat Alex Barry 12-8. Up at 112 pounds, Joey Shaheen worked his way past Jake Murdock 7-3 as Kurt McArdell earned six points at 140 pounds, pinning Bryan Hall 40 seconds into the second period. Three other matches proved close, too. Jacob Florack (215 pounds) lost to Matt Mastro 4-3, on the heels of a wild battle at 189 pounds where Pat Nasoni put up lots of points, yet still fell to Ariel Anocedo 19-15. On the other end of the spectrum, Antonio Peck (145 pounds) did not get a point, but stayed close in a 3-0 defeat to James Segars.
