Passing the gavel

Last year's Baldwinsville Rotary Club President Dawn Custer recently passed the gavel to Ann Smiley, who took over the presidency in July.

Smiley is currently the director of the Lysander Parks and Recreation Department.

To become president, Rotary club leaders take preparatory training courses, attend district meetings and chair the weekly meetings of their local clubs. It's a challenging and time-consuming job. The community owes a special debt of gratitude to Rotary Club presidents who lead their members to "service above self" in both their own towns and villages and the international community as well.

Baldwinsville's local Rotary Club is the proud sponsor of the Seneca River Days, distribution of dictionaries to all third graders in greater Baldwinsville, the senior citizens' holiday party and dinner, outgoing and incoming foreign exchange students, various scholarships and much more.
