A flu shot clinic will be held at Faith Lutheran Church on Sunday, October 4, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Because seasonal flu viruses are still expected to cause illnesses this fall and winter, seasonal flu and pneumonia shots will be available.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, healthy adults can spread the flu virus the day before they feel sick. You can help reduce the risk of flu for yourself, your family and those around you by getting a flu vaccination.
Influenza vaccination may not prevent everyone from getting the flu this winter. Consult your health care provider to determine whether you have a condition that precludes you from receiving the vaccine. All vaccines have side effects. The most common side effects of influenza vaccines include local reactions and mild, general symptoms.
The flu shot clinic at Faith Lutheran Church will be administered by Regional Medical Services, Camillus, which accepts Medicare Part B and most Medicare Advantage plans. Some health insurance plans also cover the flu vaccine. If yours doesn't cover the vaccine, flu shots will be available at the clinic for $30, while pneumonia shots will be available for $55.
To stay healthy this winter, here are a few precautions from the CDC:
h Avoid having close contact with people who are sick and stay home when you're sick.
h Cover your mouth and nose when you cough and sneeze.
h Wash your hands frequently.
h Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth.
h Practice other healthy habits, including getting plenty of sleep, exercising, drinking fluids and
eating nutritious foods.
