Harbor Heights' residents have shown support for the proposed Enable home that will be built within their development.
During a public hearing held last Tuesday at Van Buren Town Hall, Sarah Wall-Bollinger of Enable gave a presentation regarding a group home to be built at 25 Commane Road in Harbor Heights. The home will house four women, all of who use wheelchairs and have significant disabilities, and will be staffed 24 hours a day, seven days a week. After her presentation, residents commented positively about the facility and asked how they could "embrace the girls."
"Harbor Heights is a perfect place for the girls to move in," said Shannon Wicks of Harbor Heights.
Van Buren officials voted in favor of the proposal after hearing comments, noting the home proposal was a cost-effective way to handle such situations. Funded through state funds, construction of the home is scheduled to begin in the fall and should be completed by spring. It will be designed with off-street parking and will have extra wide hallways to enable the women to maneuver around the home with ease.
