Van Buren officials held an informational meeting three weeks ago regarding the formation of a drainage district in the older section of Harbor Heights. According to officials, 28 people attended the event and 25 spoke in favor of the district formation with the other three offering no opinion.
"Based on comments at the meeting, [drainage] is a substantial problem," Councilor Mary Frances Sabin said.
Officials said the meeting demonstrated there was enough interest to further investigate the formation of the district and asked the town engineer to prepare a map, plan and report, at the town's expense, to determine the feasibility of forming the district and the cost per homeowner.
Officials anticipate the report will take a few weeks to compile. Once completed, should the report recommend the formation of the district, a public hearing regarding the issue will then be scheduled.
