Lysander parks program registration underway

Fall Registration begins Sept. 14 for the Lysander Parks and Recreation Department.

There are many new programs this year as well as favorite programs from last year. Registration is required for programs and is on a first come, first served basis. Pick up the new fall brochures at any local Baldwinsville bank, the Baldwinsville Public Library, the Lysander Town Hall and at Lysander Park or download from townoflysander.org.

Swim lessons

The following is a list of equivalent lessons (Red Cross): Polliwog - Level 2, Guppy - Level 3, Minnow - Level 4, Fish - Level 5 and Flying Fish - Level 6. Pick a time and level and Lysander staff will do a pre-testing Sept. 19 to make sure children are in the proper class. Classes will be run by the staff from the North Area YMCA.

Times and levels available:

10 to 10:30 a.m. Polliwog or Guppy

10:35 to 11:05 a.m. Polliwog or Guppy

11:10 to 11:40 a.m. Polliwog or Minnow

11:45 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. Minnow or Guppy

12:20 to 12:50 p.m. Fish or Flying Fish

Lessons will be held Saturday mornings from Sept. 19 to Dec. 19 (Omit: Oct. 17, 24, Dec. 5 and 12) at Baker High School pool, for ages 5 years old and up. Children must be 44" tall.

Beginner karate

This course covers the fundamentals of karate, while also preparing participants for further study. Training will aid concentration, improve the cardiovascular system, increase coordination, develop muscle tone, teach discipline and encourage over-all mental and physical conditioning. In addition to effective self-defense, students will learn important concepts such as discipline, courtesy, integrity, respect and self-control. Classes include a mix of focused games and serious training to build confidence and self-esteem. Parents are encouraged to join their child and learn together.

Goju Ryu will run from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Wednesdays from Sept. 15 to Oct. 28 (omit Sept. 30) at Palmer School for ages 6 to adult. Tae Kwon Do will run from 6 to 7 p.m. Fridays from Sept. 18 to Oct. 23 at Palmer School for ages 6 to adult.
