Two vie for 13th district seat - Bob Warner

What is the number one issue facing the county?

The economy including jobs and property taxes. When property taxes get too high, companies will not move into Onondaga County and some already have moved out. The Republican controlled legislature recently passed a budget with no property tax increase for property owners for 2010. This will help generate jobs.

Other problems:

State mandates -- New York state will pass down mandates to the counties without funding them.

How do you propose to solve these problems?

Continue passing local legislation requesting no unfunded mandates.

What county projects are you most excited about?

Restoring Carpenters Brook and Fish Hatchery in past budget. The Hatchery is actually a revenue generating source because fisherman spend on license, food, clothing hotels.

What is your position regarding Sales Tax Formula?

Most counties are not as generous as Onondaga County in sharing the sales tax with other municipalities and school districts. It remains to be seen if the economy rebounds then the present formula may work. If not, a different percentage may be needed.

Why should voter elect you?

To continue the work I have started in reducing Medicaid cost by millions of dollars, continue to oppose the construction and use of Site 31 as a county dump, continue to support worthwhile projects like the Carpenter Brook Fish Hatchery.
