A DeRuyter man was charged with aggravated DWI, unsafe backing and other traffic offenses after an accident on Oct. 27 at the DeRuyter Senior Housing Apartments.
New York State Police in Morrisville were called to investigate a motor vehicle accident at the apartments on Cortland Street in the village of DeRuyter.
The investigation revealed that at about 8 p.m., Kenneth L. Mullenax, 65, a tenant of the apartments was trying to park his vehicle in the apartment parking lot, troopers said. Mullenax drove his 1993 Toyota mini-van up over the sidewalk and struck a parking sign, causing extensive damage to the front of his vehicle. Mullenax then backed up across the parking lot and continued driving backwards through two adjacent back yards, striking a tree and a wooden fence before becoming stuck in the grass.
He was treated at the scene by Smith Ambulance for a minor arm injury, and was issued tickets to appear in the town of DeRuyter Court on Nov. 9.
Troopers said Mullenax had a BAC of .22%.
