RSVP thanks Canastota Community Chest

The Canastota Community Chest Inc., board of directors has kicked off the 2009-10 campaign and has many thanks to those that have already donated or plan to donate. Past beneficiaries have sent testimonials to the Madison County Eagle with their response from working with the Canastota Community Chest.

In one of the letters, the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program of Madison County thanked the Community Chest for awarding a grant to their agency from their collected funds during the 2008-09 campaign. This year the agency is hoping to benefit once again in order to continue the generosity volunteers provide to the pressing needs of the community.

The community organization maintains more than 650 RSVP volunteers who share their time, talents and experience with non-profit agencies that support worthwhile causes.

"Their [volunteers] efforts result in a better quality of life for all in our county," said Mary Bartlett, director of RSVP of Madison County.

Bartlett said many community members might know someone who has benefitted from the volunteers'' efforts. Some volunteers works as osteoporosis prevention exercise class leaders, drivers that transport seniors to medical appointments, friendly visitors to the homebound, SNACK meal servers, 55 Alive trainers, Ombudsmen Program advocates, BRiDGES' Strengthening Families Program helpers, Citizen Corps representative, Red Cross blood bank helpers, GLAS ambulances corps members, Opportunity Shops workers, tax Counseling for the Elderly preparers, or Victims of Violence hotline workers.

"RSVP also appreciates the work of the Canastota Community Chest members," Bartlett said. "We are grateful for all of you who make this generous donation possible."
