Calvin Davis and Madeline Adams both ran their way to First Team All-OHSL Liberty Division status at last Saturday's Onondaga High School League Championship, while Courtney Pitman ran to second team honors.
The race was held at the sloppy Cato-Meridian High School 3.1-mile course. Davis earned All-OHSL second team status while Adams was named to the All-OHSL third team.
Davis, the Skaneateles senior, grabbed 12th place in a time of 18:07.9, despite having 'dead legs' that were compliments of a rough training week.
Despite this, Davis is on target to move on to the state championships, with the spots to be determined at the Nov. 7 Section III championship race at Jamesville Beach.
Behind Davis was a much-improved Sam Kriever in 68th place with a time of 19:59 flat. A year ago, the junior placed 105th.
Freshman Matt Delasin finished in 115th (21:27.5), while classmates Michael Card and Danny Sakal took 130th (22:34.5) and 135th (22:54.3) to finish the team scoring for the 17th-place Lakers.
Frosh racing against juniors and seniors on the boy's side isn't a recipe for good fortune. Yet the boys continue to charge forward with their vision looking down the long road toward future success.
Adams led the 10th place girls and took 26th in 22:36,8 as the eighth-grader continues to learn the ropes. In 41st place was Pitman who somehow managed to beat last year's time in the Cato muck-fields with 23:14.7.
Steady Blair Gage improved 10 spots from last year as the junior ran 23:39.7 for 51st place. Sophomore Shannon Byrne moved through the crowd on the steep double hill to finish in 71st (24:19.9) while freshman Ellis Van Slyke fought through a breakfast that disagreed with her to finish in 75th in 24:26.7.
The Lakers now have two weeks to make their final preps for the sectional championship race.
