Incumbent Irene Scruton seeks reelection

Budget challenges created by a tough economy, New York state mandates, industrial transition and health benefit increases force us to be more creative and efficient at running town government to keep the tax rate stable for hard working DeWitt residents.

As the technology chair, we use technology to improve accessibility and create efficiencies in day to day operations with savings in labor and materials. We are currently evaluating an online credit card system for additional efficiency and convenience for the residents. I voted for the referendum to eliminate the tax receiver position saving additional town budget funds and I continue to support the community policing program, which effectively partners police officers with neighborhoods.

Growing our economic development base with redevelopment grants and smart growth planning and zoning will also help alleviate budget challenges.

Another positive issue is that Dewitt is well positioned to become a model community for our region's "green" initiatives for residential and commercial areas. Combining our educational resources with smart economic development and developing our green space resources with modern sustainability guidelines, will have a positive economic impact on our town.

Why should DeWitt residents vote for you?

DeWitt residents should vote for me because they can see from my results as a town board member, that I put the people and neighborhoods of Dewitt before politics. I understand that with their vote, residents put their trust in me to tackle the issues that are important to them, to their families, to our town and our town's future. I would be honored to continue serving our community.
