To the editor:
As chair of the Madison County Democratic Committee, I would like to bring to your attention that campaign signs, perhaps as many as 19 of them, for Allen Riley, candidate for Sheriff of Madison County, have been stolen from the private residential yards and rights of way on which they were placed. In some cases, another candidate's signs replaced his signs.
Allen Riley retired from the New York Sate Troopers after 27 years of public service to run for this office. He is a decent, honest person. He doesn't need this nonsense, and the voters of Madison County don't need it either. To the extent criminal acts, whether petty thievery or vandalism, have been perpetrated, they should be reported to the proper authority, investigated and the people who have done this should be held accountable.
