Pee Wee basketball

This beginner-level program, designed to develop skills for fourth and fifth grade children, will be held from 3:30 to 5 p.m. for two sessions. Session I will be held Tuesdays (Nov. 10 to Jan. 19) at Van Buren Elementary and Session II will be held Wednesdays (Nov. 4 to Jan. 27) at Elden Elementary School. Participants will learn fundamental basketball skills and strategy, as well as experience intramural team play. Participants may choose one session or the other, not both. There is a $30 fee (includes T-shirt) and advance registration is a must.

Alive at 25

A driver's safety class, for drivers 16 to 24 years old with a valid Baldwinsville school grounds parking permit, will be held from noon to 4 p.m. Friday Oct. 23 at Baker High School and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday Nov. 14 at Van Buren Town Hall. This is a highly effective program that encourages young drivers to take responsibility for their driving behavior. There is a $17 fee per participant and advanced registration is required.

Kids in the kitchen

A food preparation class for beginner cooks, 8 to 14 years old, will be held in two sessions from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Saturdays: Session I - Oct. 17, 24 and Nov. 7; Session II -- Nov. 14, 21 and Dec. 5. Kids will learn the basics of cooking and baking while creating their own delicious snacks and treats. There is a $25 fee per participant.

Pumpkin decorating

Van Buren Park will hold a day of pumpkin decorating from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday Oct. 18 at the park. Participating children will take a wagon ride to our pumpkin patch to pick and decorate their own pumpkin. Before leaving, the kids will be able to make their own candied apples and can take a cup of warm apple cider for their ride back. There is a $7 fee and registration is required.
