A recreation gymnastics instruction class will be offered from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. Wednesdays through June 16 (no class Nov. 11, Dec. 30, Feb. 17 or April 21) at the McNamara Elementary School gymnasium for children in first through fifth grades. Class instructors are U.S.A.G. nationally certified and instruction is based on the USA Gymnastics Developmental Curriculum. This program is ongoing and progressive, and students may start at any time and continue for any number of months throughout the school year. There is a $30 annual registration fee (payable to Town of Van Buren) with initial registration and a class fee of $15 per week (in advance) payable to Parry's Jr. Gymnastix. Advanced registration is a must.
Two evenings of open family swim will be held from 7:30 to 8:30 Tuesdays and Thursdays through May 13 at Baker High School. The fee is $1.50 per person payable each night. This program is for all ages; youth ages 16 or younger must have a parent accompany them and children younger than 8 years old must have a parent with them in the water. Shower facilities and changing areas are available, but no there are no lockers. Lifeguards will be on duty during the program. The fee is $1.50 per person, payable each night at the pool. No advanced registration is necessary.
A Halloween Party sponsored by the towns of Van Buren and Lysander parks and recreation departments will be held from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday Oct. 31 in the Durgee Jr. High School gymnasium for children 10 years old and younger. Parents are required to stay with their children during the party, and there will be a $3 fee at the door for ages 3 to 10 years old; ages 2 and younger are free.
