There's a song in the air in Chittenango.
Elizabeth Carpenter's AP physics class was recently informed that it is a finalist in the Third Annual Classroom Makeover Video Contest. Organized by eInstruction, the contest features video submissions from around the country in hopes of being one of three grand-prize winners who will receive more than $30,000 in educational technology.
"The classroom is outfitted with the latest technology. It's all orientated toward technology in the classroom," Carpenter said.
Five finalists are selected in categories of kindergarten to fifth grade, sixth to eighth grade and ninth to twelfth grade. Video submissions are suppose to highlight what the class would do with the award and how it would help the class.
Chittenango's video, "You Belong With Us," is a parody of a Taylor Swift song and stars Rose Thresh and Nick Hanggi. Thresh also co-wrote and sang the song.
"They came up with a lot of the ideas with the lyrics," Carpenter said.
According to Carpenter, Chittenango has entered before but this is the first time reaching the finals. In the past, it was her that suggested the idea.
"The kids asked me (this year). Actually, the kids were like, we've got to do this," Carpenter said. "They had fun making the video. Even if we don't win, it's created a lot of hype in the school. We have great kids. This video would be nothing without the kids in the video."
Online voting ends Dec. 4 and the winners will be announced Dec. 17. To view Chittenango's video, visit http://eimakeover09.shycast.com/submission/show/244.
