Caz highway superintendent: Keeping winter roads safe

Do Not Park Vehicles on Roads

Snowplows need space. As soon as you know that bad weather is on the way, move your vehicle off the road. This protects your car from being splashed with slush, plowed in, or hit by passing vehicles. Vehicles illegally parked on roads will be ticketed and towed.

Follow Guidelines for Winter Driving Safety

Slow down! Allow extra time to get places, and leave extra space between you and the car ahead. Use extra caution when you encounter our crews performing snow removal services.

As a reminder, the town of Cazenovia closes several seasonal roads between Nov. 1 and April 1 each year. Barret Road, Fairbanks Road, Corkinsville Road and a segment of Stanley Road are not plowed and should be avoided.

Maintain your vehicle properly. Equip your car with snow tires and keep your windshield, headlights and taillights clean at all times.

Driveway Maintenance

It is unlawful to create a hazard by moving snow from your driveway into the roadway. Please do not plow snow across the road. When shoveling out the mouth of your driveway, throw the snow to the right of your driveway as you face the street.

Be mindful of children

Do not allow children to play in snow banks along roadways. Watch for pedestrians.

Please make suggestions to Town of Cazenovia Highway Department, 3425 Constine Bridge Rd., Cazenovia. Phone: 655-4852 ext. 221. Fax: 655-5771 or email tlhunt@townofcazenovia.org.

We look forward to working together to make this a safe winter season.

Timothy L. Hunt is the Town of Cazenovia Highway Superintendent.
