LEGION POST 239: Sending well wishes for the holidays

Do you know a local soldier who won't be home for the holidays?

If you do, and you have his or her address, Martha Davis at American Legion Post 239 in Skaneateles would like to have that information.

Davis and Doreen Simmons have been working diligently to ready the Legion for a weekend filled with card signing. Cards designed by local photographer Stacia Landsberg with her photographs of the 2009 Memorial Day celebration gracing the covers will be laid out in the reception area upstairs at the Legion for residents to stop in and sign on Nov. 19, 20 and 21.

There will be sheets of paper with six squares on each of them for people to write personal messages to their local soldiers.

"We're going to mail them off to veterans abroad and stateside," Davis said.

As part of a Veterans Day project, students in the Skaneateles Central School District wrote letters to veterans, which are hanging on the walls in the Legion's bar area.

If you or anyone you know has addresses for local service members, contact Davis at 685-3391 (home) or 685-7614 (Legion), e-mail her at darta6@aol.com or find her on Facebook and send her a message through the social networking site.

Davis said people are welcome to bring addresses with them the days of the signing, however she would prefer to have them in advance so as to know how many cards Landsberg needs to make.

All cards are being donated by Landsberg. Davis said she is hoping to have the cards sent out before Thanksgiving.
