DeWitt Police have made an arrest in last week’s robbery at M&T Bank, located on 3401 Erie Blvd. East in DeWitt.
Daniel A. Ufares, 45, of 27 Stone Court in Syracuse, was charged with robbery in the third degree and grand larceny in the third degree. He was held without bail and is scheduled to return to court on Nov. 18.
The suspect’s parole officer identified Ufares from photos provided by Centro. Witnesses to the crime also identified Ufares from a photo array.
Police officials say when Ufares arrived at the parole office Nov. 12, he was taken into custody, where some of the proceeds of the robbery were found on him. Officers had already recovered clothing items believed to be worn by Ufares at the time of the robbery, and members of the Forensic Center were able to match fingerprints from the items with Ufares’ fingerprints.
Around 11 a.m. Nov. 7, Ufares approached a teller demanding money. He fled the bank with an undisclosed amount of cash, and was then chased by another person who was in the bank at the time of the robbery. No injuries were reported and no weapon was displayed.
The suspect was last seen wearing blue jeans, a dark colored hooded jacket and a light grey ski hat. He was seen running from the bank, crossing Erie Boulevard, and heading north.
