Jon Alvarez wants to talk to you.
The former Baldwinsville resident, known for his conservative viewpoints and his bid for the Baldwinsville mayoral seat, has teamed up with WFBL 1390 AM to bring Central New York "The Jon Alvarez Show."
His inaugural show aired Monday Oct. 26.
"It went very well, as evidenced by the fact that they haven't locked me out of the studio yet," Alvarez said jokingly.
He was approached about the project in October, after Leatherstocking Media purchased WSEN AM, WSEN FM and WFBL AM from Buckley Broadcasting. The focus of the local, afternoon talk show is local news and events as well as political topics of interest to local listeners.
"I see myself as an advocate for life in CNY and my show provides a forum where topics and events that impact our lives here in CNY can be discussed in a respectful, thought-provoking manner," Alvarez said. "I saw the show as an opportunity to do what I love to do, and that's talk up all the great aspects of life here and to allow people an opportunity to discuss events and topics that are of importance to them as well. If anyone has anything to share, certainly contact me or call the show. We love good news about CNY."
An eight-year resident of Baldwinsville, Alvarez and his wife, Laura, recently moved to Hannibal where they built a new house on a 60-acre farm.
"[Baldwinsville] is a great place to live. I just happened upon the land I now own through my duties as a realtor and couldn't pass up the opportunity," he said. "Land in Baldwinsville hasn't been that inexpensive in years. Hannibal will certainly experience some growing pains in the years to come just as Baldwinsville did in the old days."
In addition to being a director on the Greater Baldwinsville Chamber of Commerce board, Alvarez is still tied to Baldwinsville through his business and friends.
