Assistant coach Rob Murphy gives rotary an inside look on the Orange court
The Oneida Rotary hosted a luncheon Tuesday Nov. 10 while enjoying company from the Orangemen. Syracuse University assistant basketball coach Rob Murphy and basketball player Wesley Johnson, 21, attended the afternoon event to talk about the team's outlook. He also entertained questions from the attendants.
Longtime Oneida Rotary member Patrick McCarthy introduced the guests after lunch was served. Attendants congratulated Murphy, Johnson and the team on their 800th win, which they accomplished in last night's home game against Albany.
Johnson, originally from Texas and a former member of the Iowa State University basketball team, talked about the reasons why he came to SU. The top five starter is a junior majoring in communications at the university.
"I came here and I fell in love with it," Johnson said. "The atmosphere and the assistant coaches are great."
This was Murphy's fifth visit to the Oneida Rotary. Murphy admitted he almost didn't attend this year because of the team's schedule and other engagements. However, he said rotary member McCarthy's persistence convinced him to make his fifth visit.
"He [McCarthy] wouldn't take no for an answer," Murphy said.
