When the Baldwinsville faithful rose to their feet for match point at the Section III Class AA girls volleyball final, senior Jenna Blujus didn't disappoint.
Blujus hammered down a kill that deflected off a Liverpool player, giving top-seeded Bees a 25-12, 25-16, 25-11 victory over the second-seeded Warriors in the sectional championship at Cicero-North Syracuse Tuesday night.
For the Bees (20-0), it was their third straight Section III crown and 13th overall.
Just how dominant were the Bees this fall? They didn't drop a game all season long and will take a 60-game win streak into the state regionals. B'ville will play the Section II champion Saturday at C-NS.
"It's just so exciting because we lost some really good players last year and me being a senior and getting a championship, it's just so awesome," Blujus said.
The Bees had an answer for every run Liverpool made at them in the televised final.
B'ville set the tone for the match in the first game. Although the Warriors got within two, 14-12, on a kill by Aubrey Barrett, the Bees scored 11 straight points behind the serves of Brianna Stewart to shut out Liverpool for the remainder of the game.
Stewart finished with three aces, 12 assists and three digs. Hitter Lauren McVey had a team-high 13 kills and four blocks.
Senior Carrie Hack and Blujus stepped forward to receive the Section III championship banner after the match then went to celebrate their title with their teammates on the court. Blujus, who finished with 14 assists, eight kills and four digs, said net play was key.
"I always feel confident with my team behind me so it's a lot easier to play at the net," Blujus said. "I just know we can do it because we do it in practice every day."
