The heart of a home

A suburban home, three kids, a dog and a cat depicts the "model family" that came together thanks to adoption and foster care. This real-life family was formed right here in Liverpool.

Making their home in Liverpool off Blackberry Road, the Young family has found the best treasures that come with foster care and adoption.

Connie and Daniel Young made the decision to seek out both foster care and adoption after they lost their son during a premature birth during the late '90s.

"I was adopted so I have always been open to it," Connie said.

The Youngs began their journey to finding their family through certification courses provided by the Department of Social Services. They found themselves fully certified to foster children with the intention to adopt by the fall of 2000.

After an adoption the couple was connected to through Catholic Charities fell through, they decided to keep the certification and continue to be patient for the future of their family.

"I was in teaching school and she [Connie] was three or four months into nursing school," Daniel said about the period of time when they received unexpected news.

The couple finally found themselves in the moment they had been hoping for, only two and a half years after they sought out adoption and foster care.

The baby was fostered until adoption preparation was granted to the Youngs. The couple now had their first child, a son named David, now 7 years old and finishing first grade.

Soon after, the couple met a baby girl who was 18 months old and recovering in post-op from a heart surgery. The baby fighting congestive heart failure was fostered shortly after the surgery and later adopted by the couple. David became a big brother to his new sister Patricia.
