WG voters say yes to budget

West Genesee Central School District taxpayers last night approved the $68,849,390 general fund budget for 2009-10 with 2,016 "yes" votes and 653 in opposition.

Voters approved a proposition to purchase school buses, 1,822 to 821.

Proposition 3, which would have for the first time introduced a tax levy to WG district residents to help fund Solvay Public Library, was defeated 1,776-799.

Proposition 4 to increase funding to Maxwell Memorial, Fairmount Community, and Onondaga Free libraries passed 2,049-629.

In a close and contested race, incumbent Steve James and newcomers Kimberly Sacco and Michael Alberts won spots on the school board.

Steven James, 1,787 votes

Kimberly Sacco, 1,678 votes

Michael Alberts, 1,591 votes

Doreen Plony, 1,164 votes
