Sylvan Beach to have cameras installed near bathhouses

At the regular meeting held at 3 p.m. May 4 at Sylvan Beach Village Hall, Kyle Shannon of Gates-Cole Associates Insurance revealed that the village insurance premium would be 4 percent higher than last year. The board requested a line by line break down of the comprehensive and collision provisions on the village vehicles to determine where they could possibly cut expense.

David Lupinski from Oneida-Herkimer Solid Waste Authority presented the board various ways the village could proceed with their possible plan to do garbage pick up in the village. The board will continue to gather information before making a final decision.

Renee' Dick, regional sales director from Servomation discussed the cost and different types of food and drink available in the vending machines they could provide the village. The village may place more machines outside the bathhouse so they would be available to the public when the bathhouse is closed. Cameras will be installed in the bathhouse area to help prevent vandalism.

Nicol Baker, supervisor of the town of Vienna and Vienna Councilman Rick Leos addressed the mayor and trustees concerning a report on Channel 9 news concerning the failure of six of the 11 campgrounds in the township to meet state and federal requirements in relation to flooding. They incorrectly reported earlier that day that the campgrounds were located in Sylvan Beach; however none of the campgrounds in Sylvan Beach are having a problem. Sylvan Beach is an incorporated village and therefore is not responsible in any way for any of the other campgrounds located within the town of Vienna. Baker said she contacted Channel 9 News immediately to correct the story.

"The thing is people don't know where the town of Vienna is, but everyone knows were Sylvan Beach is," Baker said.

The board agreed to write letters to state officials supporting the town of Vienna in its effort to help campground owners find a fair and equitable resolution to the situation.

There will be a Triathlon held by T-4 Events on Sept. 13. The race will begin at the bathhouse. Ages Together was given permission to use the band stand on Sunday, Aug. 9, for a band.

Anne Saltman, senior planner for CNY Regional Planning and Development will hold an educational workshop on Sept. 25 at the village office. This will be an all day event.

The board will meet again May 18 at 7 p.m.
