The Central New York Teaching Center has awarded grants to four teachers in the Baldwinsville Central School District.
Jessica Voigt and Patricia Johnson, art teachers at Baker High School, were awarded a grant of $750 to develop an arts enrichment project that will utilize the gallery space at the high school for art events that involve students, parents, teachers and the local arts community.
Jeremy Cartier, an eighth-grade English teacher at Durgee Junior High School, and Lindsay Cesari, library media specialist at the school, have been awarded a grant of $736 to fund a program called "Literary Lunchrooms," in which students will be able to spend their lunch in a reading room of their choice. Each room will address a specific ELA skill, such as nonfiction and technical writing, comprehension and the interpretation of imaginative texts. In all of the reading rooms, teachers will encourage regular discussions about what students are reading.
