The Liverpool High School chapter of Becca's Closet recently made 100 girls from across Central New York happy by helping them find that special dress to wear to their prom or ball.
The LHS chapter held its second annual dress giveaway April 25. The first one, held in 2008, helped 200 CNY girls.
This year's Becca's Closet giveaway was made possible through the efforts of chapter president junior Chloe Salvie-Lombardo, and junior Asia Godzwon, senior Amy Warner and junior Adriana Kiewra, who are all active chapter members. Becca's Closet advisors are LHS information aide Anne Oliver, teacher aide Jeanne Cronise and special education teacher Kathy Kline.
"Becca's Closet wouldn't be anywhere if it wasn't for all the support of the volunteers and community support with all the dress donations, shoes and accessories we were able to collect," Salvie-Lombardo said.
Dress, shoe, purse and jewelry donations are accepted year-round from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the LHS main office.
Becca's Closet is a national organization founded by Rebecca Kirtman, a Florida teenager who organized a dress drive at her high school for girls who needed a formal dress but couldn't afford to purchase one. The organization has grown each year, leading to many chapters all over the United States. The LHS chapter started in 2008.
