St. Joe's honors Auxiliary

St. Joseph's Hospital Health Center recognizes and honors the work of the Auxiliary of St. Joseph's Hospital Health Center, Inc., in honor of Auxilian Day on May 13. Governor David Paterson officially proclaimed May 13 as Health Care Auxilian Day in New York to recognize the dedicated auxilians who annually donate more than five million hours of service to their health care facilities and to their communities.

During the past year, the Auxiliary to St. Joseph's was recognized by the Healthcare Association of New York State (HANYS) with the 2008 Auxiliary Advocacy Recognition. The honor is bestowed on hospital auxiliaries that have committed significant time and effort to service as advocates for their facilities and communities.

The Auxiliary of St. Joseph's boasts a membership of approximately 800 men and women dedicated to serving the needs of St. Joseph's Hospital Health Center. The Auxiliary dates back to the establishment of the hospital and has proudly continued its mission to promote and advance the welfare of St. Joseph's Hospital Health Center and to serve the needs of the hospital by assisting the administration in any and every way possible for nearly 140 years. The Auxiliary is the oldest hospital Auxiliary in Syracuse and one of the earliest organizations in the Central New York.

New York has more than 75,000 health care auxilians who initiate, fund, and volunteer for a wide variety of patient and family care services-from outpatient clinics to intensive are units. They sponsor health fairs, blood banks, and wellness lecture series; raise funds for hospital and nursing home equipment; and organize and underwrite outreach programs in their communities.
