Thruway State Police in Syracuse Thursday continued to be on the look out for a wallaroo, a small kangaroo, first spotted along the highway 24 hours earlier.
On Wednesday, troopers responded to milepost 267, near Exit 34 (Lakeport Road overpass) for a report of a wild wallaroo that was seen by passing motorists approximately 100 feet off the roadway.
Troopers searched the area and spotted the three-foot tall animal and notified the owner, Jeff Taylor who responded to the area but was unable to capture the animal.
It is believed that the Wallaroo is part of a traveling petting zoo and wildlife education program and escaped from the owner's property several days ago.
The public is asked to contact State Police in Oneida at 315-366-6000 if they spot the Wallaroo and not to come into contact with the wild animal.
