The Oneida Memorial Association met Monday May 5 at 6:30 p.m. in the American Legion home on North Main Street. The group has preparations underway for Oneida's annual Memorial Day services and parade to be held in the city on May 22 starting at 6:30 p.m. at Triangle Park.
Highlights of the meetings agenda include parade registration and the financing of the bands, trophies and miscellaneous other parade expenses. As this is a community event that is organized on a non-profit basis, the funding solely depends on support from the community through clubs, organizations and individuals. Both large and small donations are still needed. Donations can be sent to the Oneida Memorial Association, P. O. Box 93, Oneida, NY 13421.
The registration of parade entries is still ongoing. Individuals and groups planning to be in the parade need to complete and return their registration forms to the Oneida Memorial Association by Monday May 4. Forms should be mailed to the association at the address above or turn in at next week's meeting. Registration forms are available at the Oneida Chamber of Commerce office.
Local veterans and color guards, youth and adult organizations, school color guards and the like along with antique/classic cars or service vehicles are invited to participate in the parade Cars and floats are still needed.
The committee is encouraging those who plan to be in the parade to in some way embellish the "remember" part of this year's parade theme, "Respect, Honor, Remember." Colorful patriotic entries featuring military persons, events or concepts from past or present wartimes truly remember, respect and honor the service and sacrifice given for our nation's freedom.
In other business, plans are being finalized for the park services and the reviewing stand.
New members are welcome.
