B'ville resident earns educational award

Nolan Patrick Miles has been awarded a $500 educational award in a national competition with other students who are members of Modern Woodmen of America. Modern Woodmen, a fraternal benefit society offering financial services, has local representatives and is based in Rock Island, Ill. Miles, the son of Kevin and Maureen Miles of Baldwinsville, plans to use the grant to attend the United States Military Academy of West Point. He is one of 100 grant winners chosen this year.

Baker senior awarded scholarship

Alyson Tarney, a senior at Baker High School, has been awarded a $500 scholarship from the German-American Society of Central New York. The society fosters the German language and the culture of countries where German is spoken, such as Germany, Austria and Switzerland.
